  1. I was listening to this podcast while playing Oddworld Munch's Oddysee. Anyways, even though I hear great comments on DC Universe from you guys, I am still not interested mostly because I am not a big MMORPG gamer but I do enjoy the Final Fantasy MMORPGs similar to why Tony enjoyed Star Trek Online, because the universe Final Fantasy 11 took place at was from a game series universe that I really enjoy. Anyways, sucks on what happened to Scott in Super Mario Brothers 3. A similar story happened to me when I was playing Final Fantasy 8 and got to the last boss but I could never beat it and the reason why was because I only got half of the GF’s and my weapons were never upgraded because I thought I did not need to upgrade them. So I tried getting out of the final world but I found out I was stuck there and could never get back to a store to upgrade my weapons or get the remaining GFs. So I had to start the whole game all over again and I spent about 60 to 70 hours getting all the way to that final boss. I did make it all the way to disc 3 though on my second save but I never got around to finishing the game yet which I should do so I could finally watch the rest of Spoony’s Final Fantasy 8 review. Anyways, my question to both of you is what are your opinions of Rare as a company? Just wondering because I started playing Conker Live and Reloaded on the original Xbox and it is a great game but I am wondering what happened to Rare but then I found out that now they will just focus solely on the Kinect which sort of infuriated me.

  2. I was listening to this podcast while imitating a curtain Balzak... also I was washing the dishes, thank you guys for existing, washing the dishes has never been so fun. Anyway I am very interested in DC Universe but I have 2 problems. I live in a 3 story house and the wireless router is on the 3rd flor and my "game room" in captions is aaaaaaaaaalllll the way down in the other corner of the basement so the signal is only 12% and you need at least 30% to log on with the Wii, so I'm screwed and my dad is not the bigest supporter of my gaming habits so I probably won't have internet in the basement... so DC Universe.... sorry. Also the Para Nerds are funny but not as cool as Classic L337 :)
A funny moment? Well... This one time I was saving a game and because it was the 1st time I accidentally deleted my brother's Ratchet and Clank 3 save file... Oh my God he almost killed me because he was right at the end and I was like at the 3rd save point and back then we were sharing a memory card... I lived!

Also when will you guys be on Gamers Live and vice versa? Have you guys even listened to my show... now I'm sad....

  3. Great episode! I still dislike Superman -- but in hearing you talk about your childhood dreams of flying, etc... coming from the guy who has a website devoted to retro video gaming, I have to say I definitely understand sentimentality so I have to respect your opinion.

Quick thought on the large-versus-small environment element of game design theory: I'm actually kinda with the crowd that likes a small, arena-type feel, or even so far as to call it an isolation theme. For example, one quirky category of movies I like is when the entire plot takes place within one room or building, or when a group of characters is stuck in one spot and the characters, dialogue, other thematic elements have to drive the experience.

Superman on NES indeed sucked. Glad we all agree.

On adventures in finger-slips: So this one time, back when I was a kid, I was getting into Legend of Zelda. This was in the age before walk-throughs, strategy guides, the internet, all that, and Zelda seemed even more truly epic. Well there was a save file near the end, but I accidentally overwrote it. Oops. I distinctly remember feeling terrible...

... because it wasn't my cartridge. It was a friend's, who was letting me borrow it for a week, and hadn't beaten it yet. Needless to say, he was pissed.

By the way, you really don't need to read every word of my comments here, that seems silly to me. Oh, should I have said that at the beginning instead? Whatever -- great episode!
